The Frisian translation of The Hobbit by Anne Tjerk Popkema was first released in 2009. It has recently been awarded the Obe Postmapriis, the most prestigious translation award for Frisian literature.

To celebrate this accomplishment a special edition with a brand-new cover design was released on the 75th anniversary of Tolkien’s classic original, 21 September 2012.

As a special treat for Tolkien fans everywhere the limited hardcover edition is on special offer for €29,95, with each copy signed by the translator.

This second edition with new cover is also available in paperback, at €20,00.

The 'Frisian Hobbit' is also available as an audiobook, with the voice of the translator. You can find an article all about it here. Please make sure to go and look at it, since I have posted a sample of how The Hobbit sounds like in Frisian! Always fun to listen to!

Frisia

The Frisians are an ethnic group of Germanic people living in coastal parts of The Netherlands and Germany. In total there are 643,000 inhabitants (2005) and they are concentrated in the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Groningen and, in Germany, East Frisia and North Frisia. They inhabit an area known as Frisia. They have a reputation for being tall, big-boned and light-haired people and they have a rich history and folklore. I'm certain these people will love to read the Hobbit in Frisian to there kids!

Elikser Publishers Publisher Elikser LTD is lead by Jitske Kingma, and was set up in the summer of 2007, started business the same autumn and is located in Leeuwarden, the capital of Frisia.
