Here is the full version of Billy Boyd’s song ‘The Last Goodbye’ which will feature with the end credits of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Billy, who co-wrote the song with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens said, “I wanted the song to be a goodbye to all the fans who have been part of this amazing journey and to the whole world of Tolkien as it has been told in the cinema for our generation.”
I’m sure he’s succeeded. What do you think?
The soundtrack will be released on 16 December 2014.
“The Last Goodbye”
I saw the light fade from the skyOn the wind I heard a sighAs the snowflakes cover my fallen brothersI will say this last goodbye
Night is now fallingSo ends this dayThe road is now callingAnd I must away
Over hill and under treeThrough lands where never light has shoneBy silver streams that run downTo the sea
Under cloud beneath the starsOver snow on winter’s mornI turn at last to paths that lead homeAnd though where the road then takes me I cannot tellWe came all this way but now comes the day to bid you farewell
Many places I have beenMany sorrows I have seenBut I don’t regretNor will I forgetAll who took that road with me
Night is now fallingSo ends this dayThe road is now callingAnd I must away
Over hill and under treeThrough lands where never light has shoneBy silver streams that run downTo the sea
To these memories I will holdWith your blessing I will goTo turn at last to paths that lead homeAnd though where the road then takes me I cannot tellWe came all this way but now comes the day to bid you farewell
I bid you all a very fond farewell
