After the Tolkien calendar for The Lord of the Rings (2007), The Children of Hurin (2008) and The Silmarillion (2009), the 2010 Calendar will focus on the landscapes of Lord of the Rings. Normally the Tolkien Calendar always focuses on the most important Tolkien work released that year, it seems this year, since the new Tolkien book called The Legen of Sigurd and Gudrun is not Middle-earth related, that tradition is now broken. Does this mean the new Tolkien book is not illustrated or that the Tolkien calendar and diary 'needs' to portray images of Middle-earth?

The official Tolkien calendar 2010 will contain 16 magnificent landscape paintings by renowned artist Ted Nasmith, selected from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, and featuring several brand new works of art.

In this article I told a bit more about the artist Ted Nasmith and released a small interview I did with the artist in September 2007 where we talked about the Tolkien Calendar 2009.

These works are accompanied by a number of brand new paintings, including some inspired by The Hobbit and Unfinished Tales. From the moonlight poignancy of “Last Sight of Hobbiton”, and the elegant grandeur of “Rivendell”, to the lightning-ravaged desolation of “Across Gorgoroth”, this superlative collection takes the reader of a breathtaking journey through the beauty and drama of Middle-earth.
