It is my pleasure to announce the following J.R.R. Tolkien and Fantasy Inspired Art Exhibition: Castles in the Mist.

From the 5th of April until the 7th there will be held a wonderful art exhibition in Moreton-In-Marsch in England. Some of us may have been to previous art exhibitions which were held there and know how wonderful these events are; yet this time it will be even better.

Not only will the exhibition be bigger, it will also have an incredible guest list and all the biggest names in the field of Tolkien art will be present.

The exhibition will feature the works of Ted Nasmith and Ruth Lacon and there will be trading stands for Tolkien and Fantasy inspired books, costumes, jewellery, weapons, birds of prey, games and memorabilia. The trading stands include: Daerons Books, Obelisk Books, ADC Books, Coswold Falconry (Live eagles & owls), Middle Earth Furniture, Celtic jewellery, Tolkien Society,  Banners & Flags etc.

There will be Limited Edition Prints; which will also be up for sale! There will be music, laughter and lots of interesting persons to talk to, quizes & prizes...

The event will include the brilliant exhibition of original art, for example the series of castles which Ted Nasmith made for a soon to be published book of author George R.R. Martin.

Ted Nasmith will be attending throughout with his new series of "castles", originals all on display and for sale. All his original Tolkien art and Limited edition prints, smaller sketches and non Tolkien art.

Ruth Lacon will be attending with a special section on her "Hobbit" pieces, other Tolkien pieces and a brilliant new piece "Niggle's First sight of the Tree".

Also her Limited edition prints will be on display and can be bought during the exhibition.

Jef Murray will be attending throughout with all his original Tolkien inspired art shipped over from the USA.

Also his spectacular "Dragons" will be on display!

Jef Murray is employed by the Pitts Theology Library of Emory University in Atlanta but is most famous for his Tolkien art. He sketched and painted natural and mythological wildlife and landscapes since his childhood years in the north Georgia hills. His illustrations can be found in publications of Parma Nole, Amon Hen, Mallorn, Mythic Circle, the Georgia Bulletin, and the St. Austin Review and many other magazines and books.

Roger Garland may attend but his art will be on display and shipped up from his Lakeside Gallery in Cornwall, which features a large collection of Tolkien art. There are over seventy paintings and drawings commissioned by the original publishers for many of J R R Tolkien's books. The illustrations from titles include The Lord of The Rings, The Silmarillion, The Hobbit and Book of Lost Tales - also on exhibition are the original pen and ink drawings from; Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major and Tom Bombadil, together with the book covers. He has to staff his gallery for visitors so can not be certain of times and dates to attend.

The artists Ted Nasmith and Ruth Lacon will be present and the special guests are John Howe, Alan Lee and Roger Garland! All under one roof, all at one event!! UPDATE: Alan Lee has decided that he will not attend this time. John Howe also has few original pieces and advised he has nearly run out of prints. He has trouble getting anything out of Switzerland due to customs. He has advised he will not be displaying his art now and is unlikely therefore to attend.

Luckily there is also some good news! Aspiring artists Henning and Anka Eissman will attend, also authors Bob Blackhm and Alex Lewis and some members of the Tolkien family will pass by. For the readers of this website: I'll be giving a lecture on Tolkien signatures either on Saterday or Sunday.

This exhibition is an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss the styles, mediums, and effects and enjoy the large selection of art. Maybe you can get even some of your precious books signed by them! There will also be large information and biographic displays on JRR Tolkien and the artists. Tolkien literature and antiquarian books, new books, memorabilia and games will also be on display.

The exhibition will also have a program of Tolkien associated events bringing this experience to life, including, Music (live Tolkien song cycles), Readings and Quiz. The Tolkien society will also be attending providing information on membership. (Highly recommended for Tolkien fans).

Entry is free. It should be a marvellous experience and I hope you can come along. The Redesdale Hall is a wonderful and large old building in the centre of Moreton in Marsh, oak panelled, stained glass and very atmospheric. Situated in the Heart of the Shire with nearby landmarks that inspired or involved JRR Tolkien; The Rollright Stones (Barrow Downs), Broadway Tower, Dormston (Bag End), Buckland, Three Farthing Stone, Warwick (where Tolkien was married), Chipping Campden & of course Oxford.

Moreton in Marsh has free and easy parking, it is 30 minutes north of Oxford, 50 minutes from Birmingham, and around 90 minutes from London, the Redesdale Hall is a very short walk from the station on the London Paddington main line.
