This morning Entertainment Weekly released the music video for Billy Boyd’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies end-credits song, “The Last Goodbye”, and let me start by saying that if listening to the song made you emotional, it’s nothing compared to how the video will make you feel. “This is the moment when you suddenly panic that the amazing journey is really coming to an end.” It’s almost too hard to believe that come this December, the last movie will be released.
Billy Boyd shared some thoughts about what it is like for him to be back in Middle-earth, “The Lord of the Rings films were such a special time for me in many ways—working with Pete, Fran and Philippa, being in New Zealand, being part of Professor Tolkien’s work or even just the incredible friends I made, And being asked to go back to that, to work in that wonderful fantasy world again and to be singing the song that says goodbye to Middle-earth for everyone involved and the fans who took this beautiful journey with us is truly a great, great honor.” Read more from Entertainment Weekly’s article here.
The music video features footage not only from The Hobbit trilogy, but also from LOTR, including some heartwarming (and in a way, heart-wrenching) behind the scenes footage. This video beautifully ties together the two movie trilogies, and shows just how far the cast and crew, and us as fans, have come. So get yourself a box of tissues, click here to watch the video, and be prepared to get hit in the face with a whirlwind of emotions.
“But I won’t regret, nor will I forget all who took that road with me.”
