Yesterday, Hobbit actor Adam Brown discussed the inspirations for the character of Ori. If you missed it, check out Day 2 of The 12 Days of Ori here! Today is Day 3, and we’re talking about slingshots!
Middle-earth News: Ori’s weapon of choice is the slingshot. Did you have to be trained to use it, and if so, how good did your aim get? Were any cast members regular targets for practice?
Adam Brown: Who needs an axe when you have a slingshot, eh?
I did train to use it… but to be fair, there are only several moves you can do with a slingshot — it’s not the most versatile of weapons! Many cast members were targets… mainly Mark Hadlow (Love that man)!
Tomorrow: Adam fills us in on the fun side of dwarf bootcamp — training with the art department in Ori’s artistic style — in The 12 Days of Ori – Day 4.

Author: Lily Milos Lily’s first experience with Tolkien was when the eccentric Mrs. H performed all of the characters from The Hobbit in her seventh grade class. In high school, she felt obliged to decline a second date with a boy who said he had no interest in reading The Lord of the Rings. In college, she unwisely decided to reread her beloved copy of The Hobbit during finals week, with only semi-disastrous results. When not writing for Middle-earth News, Lily tries not to unnerve her coworkers and family with her extreme geekery, but somehow, Star Wars, Star Trek, Sherlock, Merlin, Doctor Who, The Princess Bride, Back to the Future, superheroes, Disney movies, and of course, Tolkien, seem to have relevance in EVERY conversation.
