"I made a promise, Mr Frodo. A promise." Yes! Lord of the Rings fans in the New York area, your time has come. The world famous Lincoln Center is finally putting on a performance of Lord of the Rings Live in Concert, featuring an orchestra with over 250 musicians. Not just that, but they're actually playing the entire trilogy of Lord of the Rings movies as Live in Concert, in mid-April of 2015. This series has already played at other venues around the world, most recently in Europe with composer Howard Shore himself. The Lincoln Center's presentation will be conducted by Ludwig Wicki with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus of Lucerne, Switzerland. Tickets are on sale now - hurry up and book before it sells out.
Lord of the Rings Trilogy Live in Concert at the Lincoln Center is playing at the David H. Koch Theater with two full sets of performances. The first on the week of April 8th, from Wednesday, Thursday to Friday with one each at 7:30PM. The other trilogy shows over the weekend on April 11th, with two back-to-back shows on Saturday and the other one Sunday at 1PM. Buy tickets here. From the event listing on the ticket site:
"For the first time ever in North America, the complete film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, will be presented live, in concert, April 8-12, 2015. Beneath a giant screen, the Academy Award-winning scores by Howard Shore will be performed by 250 musicians, on stage, including symphony orchestra, chorus and soloists. Two complete trilogies, Wednesday-Friday, April 8-10, and Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy In Concert, at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, features the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus of Lucerne, Switzerland, conducted by Ludwig Wicki, which specializes in bringing films and their scores to life, and performs an annual program of film concerts at the KKL Luzern."
I've been waiting patiently for this series to finally make its appearance in New York City, which is why we're giving it this extra bit of coverage. I already have my tickets booked for the weekend and can't wait to see this show, it should be exhilarating to experience. It's also rather aptly timed, or perhaps just a few months late, following the finale of The Hobbit: There and Back Again The Battle of Five Armies coming up this December. Then, only a few months later, we get to see the original trilogy in all its symphonic glory at one of the finest venues in NYC. Sounds like the kind of event I've been waiting for, hope to see everyone there.
