For every release of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, there has been an original credits song. The song created for Fellowship of the Ring was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and one of the songs from Return of the King ended up winning the trophy. However, so far Peter Jackson's trilogy adaptation of The Hobbit hasn't seen any of the original songs nominated. But maybe there's still a chance as Awards Circuit has pointed out some info on Warner Bros. Pictures' For Your Consideration site for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies that reveals who is behind the latest song. More below![3][4]
Billy Boyd is best known for playing Pippin in Lord of the Rings, and he delivered this stirring song:
The track is "Edge of Night" from Return of the King, and while it's by far my favorite original song from the entire series, it unfortunately it didn't earn an Oscar love. However, the song was recently featured in the teaser trailer for The Battle of the Five Armies, and maybe that's because Boyd is also singing "The Last Goodbye," the credits song that will play at the conclusion of the final installment of The Hobbit trilogy. Boyd also wrote the song with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, and we're very excited to hear what they came up with when the final film hits theaters in December. Sound good?[5]
