Tolkien Reading Day^[4] is celebrated on March 25 each year. Organized by the Tolkien Society^[5] in 2003, Tolkien Reading Day is an opportunity for fans to promote the life and works of J. R. R. Tolkien by reading their favorite passages from Tolkien’s writings. The Tolkien Society chose March 25 as the date for Tolkien Reading Day because it was the date of the destruction of the One Ring, and therefore the fall of Sauron.

The Tolkien Society^[6] chooses a theme each year for Tolkien Reading Day^[7]. The theme for 2015 is friendship. Leading up to Tolkien Reading Day, Middle-earth News has been publishing special posts on our social feeds that celebrate Middle-earth friendships. Now, we’re taking the theme one step farther to include all of you, our fandom friends.
